David grew up in Macon, Georgia and graduated from Mercer University. He went on to serve with the US Army. When he finished his tour of duty, he moved to Pineville, North Carolina, where he lives with his wife Shana and serves as president of the Charlotte chapter of Mercer University. He is also a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte and an avid supporter of the Gaston Arts Council.
